The Royal United Services Institute of NSW Inc

Badge of the Royal United Services Institute of NSWThe Royal United Service Institute of New South Wales Inc. was founded in 1888 and has related bodies in each capital city in Australia. Its aim is to encourage the discussion of national security and defence matters, and to improve public awareness and understanding of such matters.

The Institute's activities are so relevant to the defence of Australia that they are financially supported by the Commonwealth.

The Governor of New South Wales is Patron and the Senior Commanders of the Australian Defence Force in New South Wales are Vice Patrons.

The Institute is governed by a Council consisting of eight officers and 12 councillors, who are elected annually, and up to 7 councillors who are appointed by the senior Australian Defence Force commanders in New South Wales

Membership applications are welcome from individuals and corporate organisations. Family membership is available to persons from the same family.

The Institute's rooms are on Level 20, Defence Plaza, 270 Pitt Street, Sydney, very close to Town Hall and Museum stations. Tea/coffee and biscuits are available without charge and members and visitors are encouraged to use the facilities for reading, research or just as a base when visiting the city of Sydney.

This website provides a portal for those interested in Australia's defence and security, and indicates when presentations and seminars will be held.  Members are also able to research recent papers on-line, and take part in current discussion forums.
